"The Giver"

C. Who are the main characters in the novel? Do you like them? Why or why not? What is special about them? What do they reveal about the universal human experience?

-In the novel, "The Giver,” the main characters are Jonas, Jonas's family and his friends. I like the character Jonas's mom, because I think she understands Jonas and respect him. Also Jonas’s dad, he really concern about what Jonas is doing and what his assignment will be. The main character Jonas, he is a normal boy and he is not different from other boys about Jonas’s age. They are curious about their assignments because they are about the age to get their own assignments. The special things about characters in my novel is the people who is in Jonas's community, they have to follow the rules that I don’t follow. When they are same age with Lilly, they have to wear jackets that fastened down the back instead of the get front-buttoned jackets that fastened down the back so that they would have to learn how to help each other dress and learn about interdependence. In the novel, Jonas’s sister, Lilly doesn’t like that rule so she wants to become older so that she can wear front-buttoned jackets. And at nine years old, they get their bicycle and the girls have don't have to wear their ribbons. Also, they get their assignment for as their job. I thought those things are different than what I do now. I think they reveal that they have to follow the rules and the community is strict about it. They have to do what the rule says and it changes when they become older and older.
